As we as a nation continue to process, reflect, and seek to overcome the evil that was displayed in Las Vegas Sunday night, all of us want to do something to foster unity within our communities. Amazingly, already over $3 million has been donated through GoFundMe to the victims, which is an incredible way to show support from afar for people in need. But is there more we can do to prevent the next tragedy? Many are wondering this, and have been for years. There are many ideas being debated by our politicians, but as with any issue of sin, government cannot solve heart and mind problems. So what can we do?
In 1 John, we called to "not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth." That may seem self-explanatory for most of us, as we have all heard the old saying "talk is cheap." So how do we make the shift from loving in word and talk into deed and truth? We love intentionally. We show kindness intentionally. We support intentionally. We make the intentional decision to act with love and kindness each day, especially when we feel stressed, angry, or selfish. Pray today for the guidance and clarity to intentionally go into your day looking for opportunities to be a healer and uniter.
"Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth." -- 1 John 3:18
