A war of words erupted between President Trump and his former high-ranking aide Steve Bannon yesterday that dominated most news coverage. Unfortunately, this will likely be only the first vicious war of words in Washington this year, as it has become customary by political leaders to attack each other personally rather than on policy alone. Even worse, political discourse itself is now inherently angry, with rage masquerading as passion and hate as disagreement. Such a change has had a profound effect on the rest of the country, with every political debate now framed as a battle of good versus evil. The Bible tells us there will come a day when the real battle between good and evil will occur, however it will not be as a result of any legislative or political action in Washington, DC. Rather it will be a result of mankind losing faith in what was designed to hold us together: God’s love for us. In James, it says, “For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” Next time you turn on your television news or read a news post online, remember that anger’s lasting effect is distancing you from God.

“For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” – James 1:20 ESV
