Recent news broke that staffers in the White House have been using leaks and other surreptitious means to bully each other or seek revenge on those who have won policy debates. Such behavior is childish, but when viewed through that frame, completely understandable. As children, we all would sometimes try to jockey for favor from our parents. Sometimes that would mean tattling, doing extra chores (but for a selfish reason), or even misbehaving and blaming it on our sibling! It is human nature to seek glory, or favor, in the eyes of those we view as superior to us. The same often happens with Christians, judging each other and non-Christians as to who is the better person. But consider this: is there really anything we could do to make Jesus love us more than someone else? Just as any good parent does not love one child over the others, so, too, does Jesus not love any of us more than the rest. In Ephesians, Paul says, “Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love…” When children realize they are loved the same as their siblings, they have the capacity to love their siblings as themselves. Today, walk in the way of love and readjust your view of others, viewing them instead as siblings of God who are loved every bit as much as you.
