The confirmation hearing of Supreme Court Justice Nominee Brett Kavanaugh occupied much of the media coverage yesterday and will again today as the Senate decides on his candidacy. In these hearings, senators on both sides spoke frequently of values — both what they believed and what they wish for the next Justice to believe as well. Values are something we all have that dictate the way we live. What values do you hold dear? When was the last time you reflected on your values and how they align with God’s? Taking a step further, do you think your values being fulfilled are more important then God will being done? The importance of aligning our values with God is not to then boast in our piety, it is to recognize that God’s will is what should be done and our role is to be obedient. Said another way, the greatest value we can have is a sincere desire to see God's will done before our own. As it says in the Lord’s Prayer, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.” Today, take stock of your values and pursue God’s word to see how they align. Pray for God’s will to be done over your own.

“Your kingdom come, Your will be done. On earth as it is in heaven.” — Matthew 6:10 NIV
