The second Democratic Party debates occurred over the last couple days and the nation was able to see the candidates debate and discuss their ideas for our nation. We all have a choice coming in the next year as to whom we will support on either side of the political aisle, however, that choice is no grounds for a feeling of superiority, division within friends and families, or a reason to think less of strangers. That choice is simply one choice we all make and nothing more. Many misconstrue their political beliefs as the thing that gives them virtue or makes them a “good person.” However, our thoughts on any certain subject do not benefit anyone unless they are bolstered by positive action benefiting others (and not ourselves). When we believe our own virtue – or even salvation – can be attained through support of a candidate or political party, that is the moment when God takes a back seat to our own earthly preferences. Today, as you decide whom to support in the presidential race, keep yourself grounded first in the teachings and blessings of God.

“I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord their God.” – Psalm 146:2-5 NIV
