Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of triumph over tragic circumstances. Luke Siegel was a young boy like any other – he loved sports, laughed easily, and had big goals for his life. In 2015, he was tragically injured, and almost killed, in a golf cart accident that has left him stricken to a wheelchair from severe brain damage. However, the tragedy was not just for Luke, but also for his family. Tragedies such as these affect everyone, but those affects do not have to be negative. In the years since the accident, Luke has continually defied the odds for children like himself and his story of triumph has inspired countless people, including the likes of Drew Brees, Roger Federer, and Patrick Mahomes. Luke’s father Tim has started a thriving charity for children suffering from brain injuries and continues to help other children like his son. Though the Siegels, and countless other families, deal with the aftermath of brain injury each day, they also spread a message of hope and triumph to far more people than they could ever imagine. Stories like Luke’s show what amazing good can sprout from terrible tragedy when we allow God to take control.

Tragedies are defining moment in our lives. They are incredibly painful and confusing when we are experiencing them; however, when we look back with perspective at them, they always mark the points in our lives when our lives either got worse or our true purpose in life was created. The difference between those outcomes is our willingness to embrace God’s presence and plans for us. The Bible tells us, “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." With God, our greatest strength shines through tragedy to reveal our purpose. Today, if you are struggling to deal with tragedy or just need inspiration, embrace God’s presence in your life and seek his plans for you.
