Wisdom is something that we all desire and strive for, but it seems seldom comes to us when we most need it. As we look back over our lives, we all have moments where, knowing what we know now, we would have chosen to do differently. That sort of wisdom comes with experience and hindsight. However, there is a higher wisdom – that which comes directly from the Lord through prayer. We see it reflected in our society from time to time – usually in moments of great patience and reserve. But with how fast our world moves today, patience and reserve are two qualities sorely lacking; thus, wisdom is often lacking, too. We all have access through prayer to the wisdom of the One who created the world and who knows the future as well. But how do we know when we are receiving that wisdom from God? In James, it says, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” If we think it wise to jump to conclusions, air grievances for personal gain, refuse to listen to the other side, or act belligerently towards others, we are not acting on the wisdom of God but the folly of the enemy. Today, pray for Godly wisdom to take hold of your mind and lead you to a place of peace, gentleness, objectivity, and sincerity.
