The last week in our country has been very tumultuous and many on both sides of the aisle have been continuing to raise that temperature. While there are certainly important issues to be discussed, we often forget when we get incensed with political passion that our goal is not to make a point but, actually, to change people’s minds. Jesus came to change minds first, and thereby, change souls. The soul changes when the mind makes decisions and the body, mouth, and nowadays, thumbs, follow. Our mind can be the agent of our redemption or the stumbling block to our fall. We all struggle with this because we are human and we all have our biases. But it is only the reading of the Lord's word that brings us not back to the center but above all this — to what is right and true and pure. It is only in His word that our base instincts are conquered because in His word is the truth. Jesus told Pontius Pilate in the final hours of his life, knowing his death was imminent, “...for this purpose I have come into the world — to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” Today, no matter what your political preferences, seek the truth in Jesus as the means for overcoming the noise, doubt, and anxiety this world is bringing.

“Then Pilate said to him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.”” John 18:37
