Society as a whole these days has lost much of the fabric that used to hold it together. Over the years, we’ve all split into tribal mindsets, clashing over any and every issue on which there is even slight disagreement. In a word, we’ve become “stingy” with what and to whom we give anything. From our time, our consideration, our friendship, our money, our kindness, and everything else we have — we’ve all become far too reserved in our giving. Jesus said, “Freely you have received, freely give.” We received forgiveness, a new life on earth and eternal life in heaven through Jesus’ love, grace, and sacrifice. We’ve received wisdom, guidance, and a promise of plans to prosper us from God — all for free, and each of us completely undeserving of such! If we cannot step back, check our penchants for tribalism, and just give freely of ourselves, then what does that say about us? Who are we to decide whom is deserving? By giving freely, we won’t just be giving of ourselves, we will be giving of the Lord through us. Today, open yourself up to freely giving just as you have freely received.
