"This is what the LORD Almighty says: “Do not listen to what the prophets are prophesying to you; they fill you with false hopes. They speak visions from their own minds, not from the mouth of the LORD." -- Jeremiah 23:16 NIV

With headlines of the recent ISIS attacks in England and what the US should do about them still dominating news coverage, the debate continues to rage between the left and right over what strategy is best to defeat this evil. Whenever we are faced with a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, the answer is not with the media or politicians -- it is in the Bible. In politics, a party is limited in its ability to lead and influence when it is not in power; as a result, the ultimate goal of politics is not to do what is right and true, it is to win votes. Therefore, artificial binary choices form and we as voters are put in a position where we must choose between them, or fear not being "represented" at all. This is a false choice because often times, neither solution is right, true, and holds to God's standards. We are warned of these false prophets throughout the Bible, those who create these paradigms of thought. With communication of opinions and ideas never easier, we as Christians must always be on our guard against proposals that run against our shared principles. As God says in Jeremiah on the subject, "they speak visions of their own minds, not from the mouth of the Lord." Of course, not all who speak out do so against the will of God; however, the importance of speaking to Jesus about current events and our national discourse is imperative in order for us to see His will. Seek Jesus' voice in your daily time with Him, and ask Him what the right course of action is.
