With the US’s National Security team working round the clock to assess the heightened threat of North Korea's militarization, and little new information being revealed, the headlines have remained daunting and worrisome. Anyone who has watched the news or scrolled through Facebook this morning has likely seen multiple experts and political leaders speaking on the topic. While it is a good thing to look towards our elected leaders in times of strife, we must not solely rely on their understanding for all the answers, nor their ability to resolve an issue alone. In the same way, we must pray that our leaders do not lean only on their own understanding of the issues at hand. Without God, no matter what office a person holds, they are still held captive by their own understanding. Trouble and ruin are the end destination of the path lit by our own understanding. To arrive where we want to be, we are called to seek the path illuminated by God. Our God would not be our God if He did not give us a way to find His divine truth. Peter gives us this prescription, saying, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” So what does God want us to do in times of trouble? Humble ourselves, have patience, and cast our anxiety on Him. Why? Because He cares. Pray today for our nation, its leaders, and for yourself to give up our perceived control over our world, give it to God, and allow Him to guide our thoughts and actions.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5: 6-7
