News today sometimes seems more like a constant stream of arguments than a reportage of the unbiased facts. So long as we have a free society, we will always have scores of different opinions. The natural result of freedom is differentiation; but with differentiation comes responsibility. Just because we are free to argue, to mount campaigns, and shout our message at anyone around us, doesn’t mean that is the best way to be heard. To continue our peaceful and free society, we each have a responsibility to uphold the timeless, God-breathed ideals that have held our society together through all of time up to this very minute. One of those ideals is written in Proverbs 16, “Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” Solomon espouses the Biblical principle that chaos in the short-term yields ruin in the long-term; but patience in the short term brings prosperity in the long-term. There are too many today who view life from under a warrior’s helmet, seeing every conflict or disagreement as an existential battle. When life is all war and no peace, there is only selfishness and never forgiveness. For the fabric of our society to remain unshorn, we must learn to forgive and live life as selfless peacemakers. This mission would be impossible if not for Jesus living within each of us. Pray today for Jesus to guide your actions and tame your thoughts so that we see life through His eyes and not our own.
