Polls indicate the majority of the nation is either anxious, uncertain, or frightened by the threat of nuclear war with North Korea, and understandably so. Times such as these are a true test for our leaders, communities, and ourselves. With war a potential outcome of this tension, a message from a former Navy SEAL’s is particularly applicable. Jocko Willink, a retired and decorated Navy SEAL, is now a renowned speaker and leadership consultant. He has a unique response to challenging circumstances. Watch the two minute video below to see.

The lesson he teaches is that when times are tough, your response must be “Good.” Tough times will come and go. But as Paul preaches in Romans, there is nothing that “will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Since that is true, there is no reason to worry over what the world will throw at us today, tomorrow, or the next day. Instead, we must believe, as Jesus did, that in every challenge there is opportunity. Who is the only person capable of catching the anxiety we cast away? Who can absorb our fear and replace it with hope? Who lives within us, strengthening us to act on His behalf? Jesus. Jesus did not cower in fear from seemingly insurmountable threats. He pioneered the “Good”-mentality, choosing to see a world of fear and sin as a world ripe for saving. Now is not the time to fear, it is the time to act. Pray today for a spirit of conviction that leads you to see the opportunity in every challenge.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8: 38-39
