The evil riots in Charlottesville, VA showcased the absolute worst of human kind, and proved that left alone, mankind cannot live in harmony with each other. Without God, mankind is left without a perfect moral code, thus empowered to create their own. Without Jesus, mankind is left with no hope of saving. Without the Holy Spirit, mankind is left with no guidance from above in our daily decisions. However, as evidenced Saturday in Charlottesville, there are also those who claim to know Jesus and still sow discord, evil, and hate. These agents of the enemy pervert the perfect moral code of God to suit their own proclivities. We are all imperfect people who are sinners by nature. But to allow sin to rule your life is to refuse Jesus. Even worse, to use the Bible as justification for evil actively fights against God and for the enemy. The Bible is not ambiguous. Nowhere does it say to hate your neighbor. Everywhere it says to love your neighbor. Jesus is the savior of our world, and His word in the Bible is resolute. Pray for those today who were affected by the Charlottesville riots this weekend, and for those involved. Most importantly, as you go into the world today, whether to work, school, or wherever: be the person who rises above hate and embodies the love of Jesus this world needs.

“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.” 1 John 2:9-11
