President Trump’s announcement of sending more troops to Afghanistan was met with both praise and critique Tuesday. No decision to send our nation’s best into harm’s way can ever be easy, and it is important that we as a nation insist on the highest integrity in that decision making process. But since that decision has now been made, what are we to do next? As God’s people, we are to pray for those God has chosen to fight on our behalf, and praise God that He fights with them. Psalm 44: 5-8 says of our God, “Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us. For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me. But you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us. In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever.” Because of most of us are not on the front lines, we must pray for those who are. Pray today for God’s hand to be upon all who stand between us the enemy, that they may have the strength, courage, and calling to fight for God and country.

“5 Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us. 6 For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me. 7 But you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us. 8 In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever.” – Psalm 44:5-8 ESV
