As the nation continues to see horrible images of the destruction in Florida after Hurricane Irma, many are heeding the call of the needy. Having learned hard lessons from previous storm recoveries like Katrina and Sandy, the immediate recovery efforts for Harvey and Irma have seemed to be, by all accounts, well planned and effective. However, there is still such a long road ahead to normalcy for those affected. Sadly, that road will extend far longer than the press, social media, and even our own thoughts will drive. What will become of the countless displaced and, in all senses of the word, disrobed Americans who will need our help long after the calls for giving abate? We all will have times in life when we pray for a miracle, for someone to appear in our lives with a helping hand. When it comes to these people of Texas and Florida, be the blessing you would wish for. Today, pray for doors to open and avenues to be paved by God to allow you to be a blessing to someone in need.
“And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.” – Luke 6:31 ESV
