With Election Day in our rearview mirror, now is the time to come together as a nation to pray for our newly elected leaders. Now is also the time for our newly elected leaders to choose the path they will walk as they govern. During a campaign, through a creative speech writer and communications team, it is easy straddle two opposite roads in order to appeal to as many voters and anger as few as possible. However once in office, efforts towards neutrality and people pleasing are left at the foot of an elected leader’s voting record. Standing and being counted as part of one mode of thought is a powerful thing, both in politics and in life. In the Book of Joshua, he recounts his struggles with the other Israelites who have grown apart from God and siphoned their faith into many different gods – essentially attempting to play for two competing teams. Joshua declares, “Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua chose the road he and his house would walk with no regard to what the rest of Israel would do. Such is the decision will all must make, for we cannot walk two roads at the same time. If we are not walking with the Lord fully, we are not walking with Him at all. Pray today for our elected leaders and for peace in our nation. Pray as well for the conviction in your own heart to stand and walk with the Lord.
