The writing of new laws, something forcefully advocated for issues such as DACA and firearms, requires wisdom, foresight, sober and logical thinking, and most of all, a respect for things greater than self. First among these greater things is faith in God above. Without a recognition of God’s supreme place in our lives and our world, we humans face enormous temptation to seek personal aggrandizement over greater good. Just as the US Law Code may be the guidepost for what we can and cannot do, God’s Word in the Bible is our guidepost for what we should or should not do. Put another way, the law guides us legally while the Bible guides us morally. In 2 Timothy it says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.” Such is one of the many reasons why this country works its best as “one nation under God.” Today, pray for God to guide your thoughts and actions to be more in line with His idea of morality over our society’s idea of morality.
