Happy #ElevatedFriday! Today we highlight the power of encouragement both in the face of tragedy as well as everyday. In the wake of the tragic school shooting in Parkland, FL, one teacher in Indiana challenged her high school students to do something kind for their classmates. Her students responded in an overwhelming way, writing over 5,100 notes of love and encouragement they then posted on the lockers of each and every student in their school. The outpouring of love had a dramatic effect on the mood and morale of the school body and many of the notes are still hanging on the lockers now. Of the challenge, the teacher said to her students, “…When you go to sleep tonight I hope that you know that you made a positive impact on someone’s day.” Such should be our goal each and every day.

The Bible itself is the greatest source of inspiration and encouragement for Christians as well as many others across the world. However it is human natures to want and need positive encouragement and words of affirmation, but for those who do not read the Bible, this can be hard to come by. The Apostle Paul made it a point to espouse the power of encouragement of other brothers and sisters in Christ, as well as all of our neighbors. Most succinctly in his first letter to the Thessalonians, he says, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” A single word of encouragement can buoy what countless words of discouragement try to sink. Today, make it a point to encourage those around you with the same love and positivity shown to us by Jesus.

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV
