Violence is unfortunately part of our world because sin still rules the hearts of too many. With school shootings and bombings in Texas dominating news coverage in recent days, it is hard to escape that reality. But God does not want us to escape reality or bury our heads in the sand when it comes to evil in our land. However He also does not want us to shut Him out and only seek the counsel of other sinners. He wants us to seek Him and ask Him in prayer for help, comfort, peace, and the way forward. In Matthew, Jesus says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” When tragedy strikes, countless people offer their prayers. Jesus promises us that those prayers will be answered when done earnestly and with zero doubt in their effectiveness. Today, pray as if Jesus is sitting in the room with you, hearing every word.

““Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” — Matthew 7:7 ESV
