Popular culture today says that money and fame are what we all should seek because that is how success is scored. Acquiring those two things show that we are living “the good life.” But Jesus showed us how the real “good life” is lived. In Luke 15, it says “Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” If Jesus lived as society today would tell him to, he would have basked in the glory of fame and renown. He would have given interview after interview, and maybe even cashed in on his fame to launch a product line or two! But instead, he did the opposite: he "withdrew to lonely places and prayed." Why? Because Jesus knew that fame can overtake our soul when we do not prioritize our relationship with God first. We are meant to give praise where it is due, not seek praise from where it is not. Today, reaffirm your relationship with Jesus as the first priority in your life.
