Tuesday evening, America lost an icon in former First Lady Barbara Bush. Well respected on both sides of the political aisle, Mrs. Bush lived a life of consequence and faith. A few years ago, she said in an interview, “I’m a huge believer in a loving God. George and I pray together every night, outloud. And sometimes we fight over whose turn it is! I have no fear of death, which is a huge comfort…because I know there is a great God and I’m not worried.” Such faith in the face of her waning years is an inspiration to many. We all will face the waning days of our lives, some knowingly and some unknowingly. But those who know Jesus personally and live a life in reflection of that faith have hope of better days to come, both in this life and the next. In Revelations, it says, “Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Today, thank Jesus for His love and sacrifice that allows us to live forever with Him.
