New broke yesterday that Iran may be cheating on the nuclear deal signed during the Obama administration. With current President Trump often opining on its leniency and now Israel claiming proof of Iran’s violations of it, the future of this deal is in jeopardy. Just as with these national issues, whenever something of importance in our own lives, like our jobs or relationships, begins to unravel, our usual reaction is to question everything else in our lives. How will I pay the bills? Who will help me? Does God really love me? If the human mind were a tree, such questions would be flowers on the branches of anxiety. They may seem enticing, but in reality, they are just distractions from what truly constitutes the tree: its trunk and roots. In Matthew, Jesus says, “Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” When things are unraveling in our lives, rather than focus on the flowers, remember what gives you the strength to stand through all seasons of life. Today, make the decision to seek God first in all things so that His blessings will come to you from the things that he has blessed for you.
