Too often today we see people doing things to gain fame, fortune, or power that most of us could not fathom ever doing or saying. Suffice it to say, we all have lines we tell ourselves we won’t cross, and are appalled when we see others doing so. However, lest we not be judgmental, we never can know what someone is truly going through. That said, one of the greatest benefits to life lived for Jesus is that we do not have to set our own boundaries of personal conduct. How exhausting is it to constantly have to wonder if what you’re doing is honorable, pure, and good? One of the most freeing things about a life lived faithfully for Jesus is that we can be confident in the goodness of our actions because we have a perfect example to follow. Today, reflect upon Proverbs 16:19 and the value of being able to live a life of faith and goodness, regardless of the blessings in life that may or may not come.
“Better to be lowly in spirit and among the oppressed than to share the plunder of the proud.” — Proverbs 16:19 NIV
