The ongoing debate over what to do about illegal immigration in the US, specifically the issue of family separation, continues to rage across the country. When emotions run hot, negotiations for a solution grow cold. In our anger, doubt, or disdain, we all have the tendency to close ourselves off from anyone who doesn’t take our side of an issue. In 1 Corinthians, Paul wrote, “What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.” God created each of us with a unique personality and unique ideas. When we shut out the ideas of one who comes to us in good faith and honesty, we close the door on what God is handing to us. Today, seek out ways to remain open to those who approach you in full faith and, if so called, reach out to others in the same way.
