The midterm elections are coming up and most people are finalizing their decisions on whom they will give their vote to. Voting for someone inherently includes making a decision on what you think of them as a person, their political beliefs, and their life experiences. How many of us are guilty of judging others — who aren’t running for public office — on the same qualities? When we begin to seek perfection in others in order for them to “earn our respect,” we will inevitably overlook many who are deserving. In Romans, it says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.” Stop expecting people to be perfect in order to respect them. Respect effort. Respect virtue. Respect those who strive day in and day out to make the world a better place but also respect those who strive day in and day out to provide for their own. Today, make a decision to give your respect more freely.
