Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of kindness and community that is sure to uplift us all after a very contentious few weeks leading up to the elections. In Florence, Alabama this week, Natasha Wilson was at the doctor’s office with her young son. We all know that there is usually considerable paperwork to do at the doctor, and Natasha was noticeably struggling to fill it out while her young son needed attention. An elderly man named Joe Hale noticed her struggle and simply asked, “Could I hold that baby for you?” to which Natasha quickly said yes. A simple photo (seen in link below) was taken of the young black boy asleep in the arms of the elderly white man while his mother did the necessary paperwork. The image is a heartwarming reminder of the kindness of others and that kindness knows no race, color, creed, or other artificial barrier the world can construct.

The world tells us that people who are different should not get along. Everyday we hear stories of how people are fighting, not extending a helping hand, or reacting angrily to the slightest affront. But under the surface of these flashy stories are real people who are good, caring, and uplifting to each other. The Bible tells us, “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” The Lord is the source of all goodness and righteousness in the world. Because God is always present, there is always good in the places where the world tells us there is not. Today, be the conduit for God to bless others around you.

“Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” – 1 Peter 2:1-3 NIV
