Some days it can be very difficult to feel compassion for those we disagree with or who are different from us. Try as we might, our own thoughts and prejudices hold us back from truly connecting with others. God wants so much more for us than for us to just live life with people just like us. He sent his Son to show us how to break free from such an existence. In 1 Samuel, God says, “For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” Seeing the best in someone is seeing that person as God does. Believing that they are worth the effort of reaching for is seeing them as Jesus does. Today, pray that God opens your eyes to see others as He does and your heart to connect with them as Jesus does.

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7 NIV
