The passing of former President George H. W. Bush has caused the entire nation to remember the man who led America through some trying times. Undoubtedly, the Bush family feels the loss of their patriarch the most potently. But there are many during the Christmas season, who either recently or in the past lost someone they love, who feel the sting of their absence again. It can be a time when we feel our spirit should be lifted up in the celebration of Jesus’ birth, but we cannot help but feel downtrodden because of the loved ones we cannot share the season with. But God sees the hurt in our hearts and is always present for us. In Psalms, it says, “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Our God is a present and available God who sees our pain and lifts us from it. Today, if you are hiding pain from lost loved ones, draw nearer to God and allow Him to uplift your soul.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18 NIV
