The bitter stalemate between our political parties continues as the government remains partially shutdown. In such times when two sides form and refuse to leave their corners, it’s easy to wonder how and when something positive can happen. We’ve all had times in our lives when we have been completely sure of what we are doing, only to find out later that we were the problem. We’ve all also clung to ideas or thoughts about what is right or who we are, only to later find out we were wrong all along. It takes a great deal of humility to give over control of our lives to the Lord. It takes one more step of humility to ask God if we are doing or thinking something wrong in life. Romans calls us to action in this, saying, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” One of the boldest prayers we can pray is this: If I am wrong, Lord, make it known to me and help me to change. Today, pray that prayer for yourself and listen intently for God to show you the correct course of action in your life.

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” — Romans 12:2 NIV
