It is easy these days to air our opinions for all to see – and for the internet to always remember them – and that has gotten many public figures in trouble in recent months. While forgiveness is incumbent upon Christians, the world does not see things the way we do; worse, some Christians withhold forgiveness from others when they have freely received it themselves. But this all goes to show that the most valuable thing we have in life behind our relationship with Christ is our good name. Proverbs says as much, saying, “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” So how to we keep ourselves from losing the honor and favor of our good name? If you reflect God’s love for you to others in all you do, you will always retain the honor of your good name. Today, if you have acted poorly or said things you regret, apologize and make them right. If you are holding back forgiveness from someone who has done the same to you, forgive them as you were forgiven.
