As the presidential candidates continue to campaign for the nation’s vote to be our next executive leader, they are using many different tactics to acquire that vote. Obviously, there are many ways to gain votes, but there is only one way to become a great leader of people. Jesus instructed his disciples that in order for any of them to be a great leader, they must consider themselves as servants and slaves – the lowest of the social classes of the time. He said, “…whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Leadership requires the highest degree of servitude because if you are not serving others, no one will line up behind you. Today, if you are struggling with how to succeed at work, in your family life, or elsewhere, take Jesus’ example for how to become great.

“…whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Matthew 20:26-28 NIV
