Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there! Motherhood is a valuable and precious gift from the Lord that each day brings both blessings and abundant love as well as challenges and, sometimes, heartache. Nowadays, there is tremendous pressure like never before on mothers to be everything — successful at work, the perfect mother, look beautiful every day, and keep the household to Pinterest-standards (just to name a few). Proverbs 31 details what a Biblical woman does, and upon reading it, it is easy to be overwhelmed. Who really has the time, patience, and energy to do everything? The answer, of course, is no one. However, at the end of the verse, the Bible gives the single aim for all mothers to strive towards. It says, “Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:“Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” Motherhood is very seldom glamorous, and it is always stressful; but if we strive to live a God-fearing life above all else, the rest of motherhood will fall into place. Today, give thanks to your mother and if you are a mother, give your cares and stresses to the Lord and ask for His guidance instead of what the internet says you should be.
