We all face the temptations to acquire all the world has to offer — money, success, fame, power. But when we stretch ourselves too far in our attempts to attain these things, we can fall into trouble. We consider living in the limelight as desirable, but are there not benefits to living in the audience, too? Said another way, given the choice between sitting outside in the sun or in the shade, which would we choose? Would our choice change when the temperature starts to heat up? When we live life for Jesus we are going to live in His shadow as we seek to give glory to Him in all we do. But among the many things we receive in return for our faith are blessings that we cannot achieve or even dream of on our own. We also receive peace of mind, body, and spirit in the pursuit of those blessings — instead of the constant fear of what could go wrong. Psalms tells us, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” We truly rest in the shadow of the Almighty when we trust what the Lord has for us instead of seeking anything and everything we can get. Today, if you are struggling with trying to achieve it all, let go, give it to God, and rest in His shadow.

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High

will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” — Psalm 91:1-2 NIV
