We all face storms in life that challenge our toughness, endurance, and even our grasp on our very lives. Life is not easy and God never made any promises that it would be so. However, that is why we need our God to be a big God who is capable of all things — and fortunately for us, He is! Jesus is the calmer of all storms, and showed just that to his disciples in Mark chapter 4. As they were making their way across the water, a storm threatened their very lives. They awoke a sleeping Jesus who responded this way: “He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” Jesus is capable of calming any storm, but he is also capable of keeping us calm during a storm. Sometimes the storms we face in life are meant to strengthen us and our faith. We are called to trust Jesus’ judgement as to whether he will calm the storm itself or just calm us until the storm passes. Today, if you are enduring a storm, trust that Jesus is working to calm you or calm the storm you face.

Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!” — Mark 4:39-40 NIV
