The Mueller testimony yesterday took front stage across the media. As analysts and pundits parse through both his report and testimony, viewers we will likely only see sound bites and instances that support whichever side of the issue those pundits take. When we seek understanding through only others’ understanding or others’ chosen sound bites, we will always fail to grasp the full meaning. Similarly, when we only choose to pick certain verses from the Bible but neglect the greater meaning or context of those verses, we will fail to grasp full understanding of Jesus. The most powerful thing we can do to better understand Jesus, after having full faith that his word is true, is educate ourselves on the context of the Bible. In news and the gospel, sound bites do not paint the whole picture nor give us the understanding we need. If we are to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” as Peter urged us to do, reading and researching of the full gospel are imperative. Today, read a full book of the New Testament, as written, instead of just certain verses. See how your understanding of your favorite verses grows when placed within the context of a full letter to a group of people as they were written to be.

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.” – 2 Peter 3:18
