The political warfare in Washington is continuing to fray the edges of our nation’s bonds. But should we be surprised that those seeking power in this world would sometimes use what is wrong with the world to attain it? Human nature is to sin and we all have done it. It would seem that a world lost in and divided by sin is hopeless, would it not? Fortunately for us all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ overcame the world and saved us all from the hopelessness it guarantees. He said, “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” Jesus is both the one and only constant in the world and the one who overcame the world. The fact that he is forever the same means that he will always be greater than the world. In that fact, we always have hope. Today, regardless of any frustrations or anxieties you have over what is going on in our nation, cling to Jesus and place your hope in him alone.

“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” — John 16:33 NLT
