As we begin the Thanksgiving week, we all should reflect upon the many, many blessings that God has given each of us. Thankfulness is an incredibly important quality to exercise each day, so much so that even secular “self-help” and “mindset coaches” espouse it’s importance. Thankfulness is Biblically important though because the honoring of God begins with it. Thankfulness also recognizes Jesus’ sacrifice that allows each of us to have everlasting life. But thankfulness does more than just give us something to look forward to at the end of our lives — it allows us to live in peace. Paul wrote, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Thankfulness is the most important precursor to peacefulness. Without being first thankful for what we have, we cannot live at peace with all we do not. Today, reflect upon how being more thankful can improve your relationship with Jesus and give you the peace you seek.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:6-7
