There’s been much said in the news about escalation of tensions with Iran in recent days. While disagreement is normal, many are forgetting that whether someone wants to fight or not fight in this situation, both want peace as the end outcome. As we can see in the Bible, not all fighting is bad nor is all pacifism good. Just as in our own personal battles, what is needed in the fight (or not fight) is God. When we trust God to direct our actions we know what we do is righteous. God said to King Solomon, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Thus, we have a prescription for healing of our land and a recipe for a better future. Praying for peace works when we humble ourselves, pray, seek Jesus earnestly, and repent. Today, no matter what we each feel about what is going on with our nation and Iran, we each have a role to play in the healing of our world.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” — 2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
