Tensions with Iran have been the lead news story the last few days, causing anyone watching the news to wonder, “What comes next for our country?” We will know in time, but that does not make the waiting easier. The road forward is never a straight path when we lean on our own understanding. The Bible gives a prescription for hope in these times though, saying, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” A straight path would be nice, right? So what does it mean to acknowledge God then? God wants all of each of us, but He especially wants the first of each of us – the first of our thoughts each day, the first of the money we are blessed with, and the one relationship we value over any other. He wants to be placed first in our lives. Acknowledging God is more than just giving Him a obligatory bedtime prayer or chipping a few dollars into the plate on Sunday. Acknowledging God means acknowledging His rightful place in our lives – first. Today, if you are seeking a straighter path ahead, begin placing God first in all things in your life and you will have it.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” – Proverbs 3:4-6
