Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of a young boy who believes what the world would consider his disability is actually his superpower. 9-year-old Benjamin Russo of Canada was born with dyslexia, a reading disability that affects many people around the world. But despite the challenges he faces reading and writing, he has always been blessed with incredible spatial awareness and the ability to memorize patterns quickly. This blessing has turned him into quite the artist and recently, he created a portrait of WWE wrestling superstar John Cena out of Rubik’s cubes! He has combined his ability to solve one side of a Rubik’s cube in one second with his spatial awareness to create art that is truly incredible. Benjamin said of it, “Dyslexia is not my disability. Dyslexia is my SUPERPOWER.”
None of us is perfect, not a single one. No matter how put together some may seem, they, just like you, struggle with certain things. But we all have things we are great at as well! Just like the portrait of Rubik’s cubes that Benjamin pieced together, each with different colors showing, God created each of us with different strengths and weaknesses in order for each of us to show different colors. It is when we find our God-designed purpose using our God-given talents that we are placed into the portrait of the world God is creating. The Bible tells us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” Today, if you are struggling with self-doubt or jealousy of others, pray for God to show you the strengths and weaknesses He gave you and the purpose He designed for you.
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17 NIV
