Elevated Friday, January 31st, 2020

Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story that most would have considered a blessing to one man, but turned out to be a blessing to someone else. Howard Kirby recently purchased a secondhand couch for his man-cave, but after getting it home and sitting on it, he found it strangely uncomfortable. His daughter ended up unzipping the cushions and – lo and behold – the reason it was so uncomfortable was that it had thousands of dollars in cash stuffed in it! In total, $43,170 was pulled from the cushions. Kirby’s lawyer told him he was under no obligation to return the money, but he didn’t feel right doing that. He returned to the store he bought the couch from and found who had donated it. Upon returning every last dollar, he learned that the donator had inherited the couch from her deceased grandfather. That honorable act blessed the family who really needed it.

God blesses us all in different ways and at different times in our lives; but sometimes the blessing God gives us is not meant to stay with us. We are called to use our talents, time, and money to help others in need. Why? Because it glorifies God and shows Jesus’ heart to the world. Jesus said, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Not everything we are blessed with is meant to bless us. Today, if you have been blessed with something, give it freely and fully in Jesus’ name.

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16 ESV
