Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of generosity that is sure to inspire. In Georgetown, TN, a senior citizen came up short on cash when trying to buy groceries at the local grocery store. 17-year-old Elizabeth Taylor was the cashier and when the senior citizen, Layne McKeel, said she would go put things back, Elizabeth noticed that everything in the cart was an essential. Elizabeth told her that she would cover the last $33 of her $173 bill. Elizabeth is a young person making very little money per hour (this $33 likely equating to 3-4 hours of work), is risking her health to work for her community at the grocery store, and still had the generosity to cover the needs of someone else. Elizabeth’s gift is a great example of how Jesus’ death for us covers the gap between us and God.

We all can come up short at times in life — none of us is perfect. We all are guilty of sin as well, and that is what separates us — or makes us fall short — of God. Romans says, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Recognizing this, Jesus gave his life to bring us back into communion with God. While we cannot do that for others, it is our responsibility to cover the gaps for others when they fall short. Covering other’s shortcomings is the Christ-like thing to do. Today, find a way to cover a gap for someone in need.
