Elevated Friday, April 24th, 2020

Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of one restaurant that has survived in this tough time by changing its mission. Just like every other restaurant, Tootsie’s in Palo Alto, CA was hit hard by this pandemic. Their owner, Rocco Scordella, decided that to survive, he needed to get creative and change the mission of the restaurant. He decided to launch an “Adopt a Doctor or Nurse” catering program, where community members could send in requests and payment for meals to be delivered to hospitals in the area. On the first day, they received 750 requests! It has only grown since then and the influx of orders has allowed Rocco to rehire his staff that he was initially forced to lay off.

In such hard times, it is very tempting to think first about ourselves. But when we start thinking only of ourselves, what we are actually doing is not trusting God to be our provider. We make the decision to grab hold of our lives and control everything around us – something God does not want us to do! God wants us to trust Him, and in doing so, keep our focus on helping others in His name. Paul trusted the Lord when he wrote, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” We attract the help we personally need when our mission is to help others. Today, if you are trying to control your own life in order to stay afloat, change your mindset and trust the Lord to provide.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19 ESV
