When adversity strikes, such as being laid off from a job, losing a loved one, strife within a personal relationship, or a global pandemic, many of us cry out to God, “Why?! What sense does it make to cast me adrift at this time in my life?” Solomon shed light upon this situation in Ecclesiastes, saying, “Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.” Belief that our mighty God is who He says He is does not allow for times of adversity to be outside of His grasp. God is in control and has made both good times and bad times in our lives. Relying upon God in the good and the bad allows for forward progress through both. Today, give praise to God for both the good times and the bad in your life that have led you to where you are today.

“Consider what God has done: Who can straighten what he has made crooked? When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.”– Ecclesiastes 7: 13-14 NIV
