Elevated Friday, May 15th, 2020

Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of a well-known chef who has worked hard to help the restaurant community nationwide, but isn’t resting on his laurels. Guy Fieri is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable faces in the US and over the past several weeks has worked to raise over $22 million dollars for restaurant employees who are unable to work because of the COVID-19 crisis. He has already provided 40,000 workers across the country with $500 grants and more money has continued to be sent each day. Most people would see that as enough for one person to accomplish, but Guy is remaining tireless in his efforts to help. He is hosting a nacho cookoff against comedian and actor Bill Murray, with the help of both of their sons, and celebrity judges Terry Crews and Shaquille O’Neal. It will be webcast today on the Food Network’s Facebook page at 5 pm EST (here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/FoodNetwork/) and will be another fundraiser for his charity, the Restaurant Employee Relief Fund. It should be a fun event and shows what being tireless in our efforts to help looks like.

We are called by Jesus to serve others. Some of us do this professionally, others do it when we can find the time. We all grow tired from time to time and need to recharge – even Jesus did so! However, in this time when so many are hurting and in need, we all need to resist the urge to withdraw or rest on the laurels of what we have done already to help. Galatians says, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” We all grow weary at times and want to rest, but now is the time to keep going. Today, consider how you can be a blessing to others and commit to doing so.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” – Galatians 6:9 NIV
