As the nation continues to have a conversation on the issue of race and what solutions should be adopted to make society more equitable for all, there are many voices from many different viewpoints speaking more at each other than to each other. There is a temptation in life to believe that whatever we individually think is the truth and the best idea. In reality, life is more nuanced and none of us is ever completely correct. That is why for any conversation about issues to be fruitful, it must seek Jesus before the earthly desires of its participants. When a conversation seeks Jesus first, it seeks real justice, love, and compassion for all. When it seeks earthly desires first, it seeks power, winning over a perceived opponent, and greed. Jesus said, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” If Jesus is not at the heart of the conversation, it is wasted breath. Today, turn from the temptation of being right at the expense of seeking Jesus in all things. Those who seek Jesus will find Godly solutions to their problems.
