This week, there are calls around the country for radically changing the way that police operate, as well as some voices calling to defund them in favor of other community programs. While issues of morality, such as racism, should be quickly addressed, political changes, such as how to spend taxpayer money and the role of police in society, should not be made quickly nor without careful consideration. Elevated Discourse is not here to take political opinions and will not do so here, however, it is apparent that some these days are not open to reason, debate, nor compromise. Godly wisdom imparted upon humankind does not come in the form angry mobs, online cancel culture, or a spirit of anger and resentment. On the contrary, the Bible says, “But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” Our nation has some difficult conversations ahead, not just because this is a Presidential election year but because of all that has happened in the past few months. Today, whatever you believe, resolve to hear out the other side peacefully, be open to reason, and engage with others to create wise and Godly solutions.

“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” – James 3:17 ESV
