President Trump signed an executive order yesterday in efforts to reform police work around the country, and even though that executive order has been debated by both sides as to its merits, what matters is that it is a step of leadership in a time when the nation needs it. Leadership is a difficult thing because it calls for one to manage situations within a leader’s control but also lead through times of crisis beyond a leader’s control. A Godly leader knows that when things move beyond their control, their hands should not fiddle idly nor be raised in anger to others – they should be raised in prayer to the Lord. The Godly leaders of the Bible knew this and exhibited it while those who turned from the Lord showed the opposite. In this time, when ideas are plentiful, anger rampant, but solutions few, leaders and those who follow should lift their hands to the Lord in prayer for guidance. 1 Timothy says, “I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;” Godly leaders lift hands to God, not each other. Today, if you are leading, lead others to God; if you are following, pray for Godly leaders and encourage those who are.
