Happy Elevated Friday! Today we highlight a story of an abandoned child finding his “forever dad.” Tony Mutabazi was given up for adoption at birth and spent the first several years of his life in foster care before being adopted at age 4. However, by the time he was 11, those parents abandoned him by dropping him off at a hospital in Charlotte, NC. A few days later, a single man, who was a foster child himself and as an adult had been a foster parent for several years, received a call from social services about Tony. That man, Peter Mutabazi, knew immediately that fostering this young boy was not enough: he needed a true parent. Peter took him in, saying, “Once I knew the parents’ rights were signed off and he had nowhere to go, I [knew] I had to take him…I had the room, the resources, so I had no reason to let him go. Peter has been Tony’s father for several years now and in November 2019, he made it official, adopting the now young teenager permanently. Peter shares how much better both of their lives are online frequently now that they are a family. It is truly amazing what God can do when we answer His calling.

God does not just pick a handful of people in each generation for His holy calling; He has a holy calling for each of us. We’ve all heard the old saying, “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” But even when we are qualified and hearing His call, we do not always answer it. Paul wrote to Timothy of God, “Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.” God calls all of us to a holy calling and answering it is our life’s greatest challenge and blessing. When we change our viewpoints from being merely spectators of God’s greatness to being active participants, our lives will be enriched and the world will be a better place. Today, ask God to show you His holy calling for your life and how you can be an active part in His great plan.

“Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.” – 2 Timothy 1:9 ESV
